Work Abroad Programs

  • AIESEC International: (pronounced EYE-sek) is a student-managed, not-for-profit educational organization which sends students on paid internships overseas in almost 100 countries. Begin by looking at the AIESEC Colorado website and visit their office in the UMC!
  • Bridge: For over two decades, Bridge-Linguatec has been sending language students, international volunteers, and English teachers to every corner of the globe. Whether you want to learn a foreign language, teach English abroad, or volunteer overseas, Bridge-Linguatec has a way for you to get out and see the world. BridgeTEFL offers certification courses in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in over 10 countries worldwide and online. Bridge-Linguatec is an accredited institution based in Denver, CO, with offices in Argentina, Brazil and Chile, and a network of partner organizations worldwide.
  • BUNAC (British Universities North America Club): Offers work abroad programs in Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, and provides short-term work visas.
  • Concordia Language Villages: A summer language and cultural immersion program that is always looking for counselors and other staff positions with language skills in one of the fourteen languages their camps feature.
  • Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX): The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) for Young Professionals is a full-year work-study scholarship program with a strong focus on cultural exchange. CBYX annually provides 75 young Americans with an understanding of everyday life, education, and professional training in Germany. The program begins in July and includes two months of intensive German language training in Germany (no prior German language knowledge required), four months of classroom instruction at a German university or college of applied sciences, and a five-month internship in a participant's career field.

  • IASTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience): Provides internships for juniors, seniors, or graduate students in the physical sciences, engineering, architecture, math, computer sciences, and natural sciences. Their mission is to operate a high quality practical training exchange program between members in order to enhance technical and professional development and to promote international understanding and goodwill amongst students, academic institutions, employers and the wider community .
  • InterExchange: Offers positions in Europe, including skilled and unskilled summer jobs, internships, au pair positions, and teaching English.
  • MASA Israel Journey: Masa Israel offers university graduates and young professionals a range of transformative career development, internship, community service and graduate academic experiences in Israel.
  • U.S. Department of State's Student Programs: Offers a variety of programs for students, from summer clerical positions to internships to management fellowships, overseas or in Washington D.C.

  • Campus Career Center: A search engine for jobs.
  • Dave's ESL Cafe: Provides a comprehensive listing of job opportunities around the world as well as offering job seekers a medium to post their resumes. Be sure to read the discussion forums, which are full of advice and pointers from experienced teachers.
  • GoAbroad.com: A comprehensive on-line source for internships, international volunteer positions, teach abroad, jobs abroad, and more.
  • Idealist.org: Search for jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities abroad with non-profit organizations.
  • NAFSA Job Registry: The premier electronic recruitment resource for the international education industry. Whether you're looking for a new job, or ready to take the next step in your career, they can help you find the opportunity that's right for you.
  • OverseasJobs.com: Features overseas jobs and international employment opportunities for professionals, expatriates and adventure seekers. Search for international and overseas jobs and land your next great job today!
  • Search Associates: A great search engine for teaching jobs abroad.
  • TeachAbroad.com: Offers a handy search tool to access jobs and employers around the world who are looking for English teachers.
  • Transitionsabroad.com: A comprehensive search for internships and work abroad. Information about traveling, working, teaching, and volunteering abroad. They also print a magazine in which you have an opportunity to publish your work!

Teach Abroad

  • Ajarn: Ajarn is helpful for teaching English in Thailand
  • CIEE: Developed from a mission born over 60 years ago and with an understanding that travel should be meaningful, CIEE Teach Abroad programs have prepared and sent individuals overseas to teach, live, learn, and grow for the last ten years. Teaching abroad is a life-changing experience that bears no resemblance to moving across town. CIEE handles contract negotiation, insurance from accident to illness, and sometimes visa procurement. They also conduct week-long orientations to acquaint you with the local language, culture, and teaching techniques. Most importantly, they have staff on the ground to assist and advise you while you're there. CIEE TEFL Online can help you prepare to teach English abroad. A TEFL certification is the qualification most overseas schools require in addition to a bachelor’s degree in any field.
  • Department of Defense Schools: Provides teaching positions around the world.
  • English Program In Korea (EPIK): EPIK provides English language teaching positions within the Korean public school system throughout the country.
  • Gone2Korea: Gone2Korea is a good recruiter to use when applying to teach in South Korea.
  • Greenheart Travel: Teaching placements in several different countries.
  • France Teaching Assistantship Program: Allows you to work for an academic year in a French high school or elementary school. The program is sponsored by the French government and you get paid to teach English.
  • Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program: Aimed at promoting grassroots international exchange between Japan and other nations. The number of countries sending participants has risen over the years, as has the number of participants.
  • North American Language and Culture Assistants Program (NALCAP) in Spain (Auxiliares de Conversacion): American college students and graduates - who are native-like speakers of English - partner with elementary and secondary schools in Spain to bolster language programs, as language assistants (TAs) under the supervision and guidance of teachers in Spain.
  • TESOL at FRCC Boulder: The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate Program at Front Range Community College in Boulder provides intensive training in TESOL, in preparation for entry-level teaching positions.
  • Teach for China: Teach for China is a non-profit organization striving to eliminate educational inequity in China that seeks talented American graduates to serve for two years as Teaching Fellows in China. Positions as campus ambassadors in the U.S. and internship positions in Beijing are also available.

Working Holiday Visas

A working holiday visa allows U.S. citizens to live and work abroad in another country for a period of time. The amount of time permitted, number of visas distributed, and eligibility requirements vary, please be sure to research these thoroughly.
