International Supply Chain Management (Singapore)

Did you study abroad as a student? What was your international experience like?

Probably the best experience of my entire educational background. Learning new cultural norms, navigating everything from local transportation to food and assimilating in a new environment, exposed me to how different people can be, yet how similar they are.

Gurumurthi RavishankarWhy should Leeds students study abroad?

It is best way to learn how to work and live in a global setting. Merely having foreign students in your mix isn’t sufficient because the environment largely dictates the interactions. When you are in a foreign setting, you are the foreigner, so you have to learn how to adapt and work in that setting doing the same things except in a different way. You get to see first-hand how and why the world is so deeply inter-connected in a million ways.

Why is Singapore such an excellent location for your Global Seminar?

It is by far the most diverse City/Country in South East Asia. There are 3 major ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay and Indians) and practically every other nationality that live and work with great harmony. It is a vibrant economy and a global center for supply chain. It has the worlds largest container port handling over 33 million containers annually and connected to over 600 ports around the world. English is the common language, it has excellent infrastructure, is safe and has something for everyone.

What is your favorite Singaporean food?

Chili-crab - yum! There isn’t any food that you cannot find in Singapore, regardless of what your taste or dietary restrictions are.

What aspect of this program do you look forward to the most?

Being with the students in a setting where they get to experience supply chain management not just discuss it in the classroom.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

It is a unique experience like none other.  All the comforts of home while being studying in a foreign country without any of the typical challenges like language barriers or food, or worries about safety.
