Did you study abroad as a student? What was your international experience like?

No, I did not study abroad as a student.

Suranjan GangulyWhy should Film majors study abroad?

In order to be exposed to international cinema and learn what makes film a truly multicultural
form of artistic expression.

Why are Rome and Paris such excellent locations for your Global Seminar? Why did you choose to alternate locations?

My choice of those cities had to do with course content. My Global Seminars are strongly interdisciplinary in nature and enable students to focus on the relationships between film and art. Paris and Rome are ideal in this respect.

What aspect of this program do you look forward to the most?

The interdisciplinary component. I love to introduce students to major filmmakers and the artists who have inspired their films. For example, we study in depth the work of Caravaggio and Piero della Francesca in Rome and how their paintings have influenced the films of two renowned international filmmakers.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I think each and every student should take a Study Abroad class and discover how the world is truly their home.
