2021 Summer GBG: Welcome

Continuing Cultural Exchange
by Moriah Maron, Global Buffs Gazette Editor

The world is well over a year into the COVID-19 pandemic - almost 500 days of working from home, welcoming students and colleagues into our makeshift offices via a screen, developing new programs, and shifting expectations of a "typical" study abroad experience. Yet, through it all, Education Abroad has remained steadfast in our mission of providing CU Boulder students with access to an extensive portfolio of high impact study abroad programs. We have offered a number of virtual study abroad and internship programs throughout 2020 and 2021, and were able to send 75 students abroad on programs across the globe in Spring 2021 (and even more in Summer 2021)! The perseverance of our students and faculty has been extraordinary and each story from the students who ventured to study abroad during the pandemic reinforces the impact that cultural exchange has on a students' CU Boulder experience.

This edition of the Global Buffs Gazette shares stories of a student's experience studying and working in Spain during COVID-19, a necessary but welcome pivot to virtually exploring Tanzania, and a more "traditional" semester abroad in Colombia. We are also looking back on our past Global Buffs - from recent graduates to those celebrating significant study abroad milestones!

As we transition back to working in person, the Education Abroad  team is reenergized by the successes we have experienced and shared through these stories and we look forward to being back in the bustle of campus life.  We welcome you to share with us how your study abroad experience has changed you, where you are now, and what you’re doing across the world. We would love to hear from you (or maybe see you in person!) and feature you in our next edition.
