Suzanne Magnanini Named 2019 President's Teaching Scholar

Dr. Suzanne Magnanini, Associate Professor in the Department of French and Italian and Faculty Director for the Global Seminar: Dante in Florence, has been named a President's Teaching Scholar in recognition of her outstanding performance in teaching and research work. Congratulations, Suzanne!

Birds break evolutionary rules when it comes to feather color

Dr. Scott Taylor, Assistant Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and current Faculty Director for the Global Seminar: Conservation Biology & Practice in Brazil's Atlantic Forest, worked with a team of researchers to study the rainbow-colored Australian finch; the quest was to understand the genes that control feather color in this highly endangered species. Scott co-authored the study, which was published in the journal Nature Communications and shared in this CU Boulder Today story. Read More
 
Scott also serves as one of the alternating Faculty Directors for the Global Seminar: Ecology & Evolution in the Galápagos Islands.

Atlantic Forest Shore by Delilah Cupp

Challenge vs. Opportunity: An Optimist’s Approach to Global Forest Conservation by Delilah Cupp

For her ENVS Capstone project, Global Seminar: Conservation Biology & Practice in Brazil's Atlantic Forest alumna Delilah Cupp wrote a blog post reflecting upon her targeted studies at CU that led to her interest in forest conservation and the start of her early career at the GCF Task Force*. Included is a section dedicated to her experience in Brazil during the Global Seminar, which was led by INSTAAR's Dr. Timothy Kittel the year of her participation. According to Delilah, "I cannot emphasize enough the influence that course had on my academic and personal development over the last couple years, and I thank [Dr. Kittel] immensely for facilitating that experience." Read More
 

*Colleen Scanlan Lyons, Faculty Director for the Global Intensive: Sustainability in Brazil: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Social-Environmental Leadership & Development in the Amazon & Atlantic Forests, is the Project Director for the GCF Task Force.

Summer 2019 Global Seminar Videographers

Five summer 2019 Global Seminar students applied and were selected to serve as the Official Videographers for their programs. Each student received a $200 scholarship in exchange for creating a brief promotional video. Check out these students' experiences in Peru, Brazil, Italy, and Argentina! Read More
