2019 Fall GBG: Welcome

Sharing Global Experiences
by Moriah Maron

Education Abroad has a long history, dating back to the 1960's when we sent the first CU Boulder students abroad to Germany, France, and the UK. Each student (Global Buff as their affectionately called), that has studied abroad with Education Abroad has experienced a different culture, formed connections across the global, and come back to Boulder ready to share their experience!

I have the privilege of being the Alumni Coordinator for Education Abroad, in addition to my role as a Program Manager. This role allows me to talk to Global Buffs that have been transformed by a study abroad experience – whether that student is still at CU, or 5, 10, even 20 years out from their Education Abroad experience. Being new to CU Boulder I have quickly learned what it means to be a Global Buff. Over the past few months, I have connected with students that have studied across the world and have returned to campus as global leaders, entrepreneurs, and change makers. I have also heard from alumni that relish in the opportunity to share their abroad experience and how it changed their career and life trajectory – whether by opening them up to a new place they now call home, forming long-lasting relationships with program staff and their fellow peers, or inspiring them to pursue a different academic and career path. I have also flipped through previous editions of the “Global Buffs Gazette” and “The Peregrine” (the original paper version of the electronic newsletter you are now reading). The articles found in these newsletters continue to allow the reader up to discover what is possible as a CU student and Global Buff. I invite you to be transported to Morocco, learn about new scholarship opportunities, support your fellow Global Buffs, and more in this edition of the Global Buffs Gazette!

I also welcome you to share with me and the Education Abroad office how your study abroad experience changed you, where you are now, and what you’re doing across the world. We would love to hear from you and feature you in our next edition!
