Tourism & Belonging in Costa Rica

With direction from Dr. Kate Fisher, students will learn about the history of Costa Rica and how it has shaped contemporary ideas on tourism and belonging. Spend time discovering different forms of tourism, visit a chocolate factory and explore some of the most beautiful jungles and beaches of the Pacific and Caribbean!

The Ethnography & Design of Making Data Strange (London, England)

Led by Doctors Amy Voida and Stephen Voida, students will be introduced to the study and design of data in an international context. Students will learn firsthand about how different national data privacy regulations affect social media. Explore Bletchley Park, where famous mathematicians broke the German Enigma Code of WWII. Students even get to live out their wizarding dreams at a behind-the-scenes look at Warner Bros’ Studios “The Making of Harry Potter”!

Global Leadership (Valletta, Malta)

Students will earn 3 credits in 3 weeks in Malta this July with Dr. Antonio Papuzza and learn about global leadership in one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world! On this program, students will practice global leadership frameworks through live cases with international professionals and develop intercultural competencies. Students will also build important references needed to work with global teams. Experience the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea, its lifestyle, and visit archaeological sites that are older than the Egyptian pyramids!

Community Engaged Language Revitalization (Teotitlan del Valle, Mexico)

Dr. Rai Farrelly and Dr. Ambrocio Gutierrez Lorenzo will guide students in the central Oaxacan town of Teotitlan del Valle on this program! Students will develop awareness about the status of Zapotec and other Indigenous languages, and the challenges to revitalization efforts of local languages in the region. Collaborate with the local Zapotec speech community to identify priorities for language revitalization and education, and share high impact practices related to classroom instruction and materials design. Earn 6 credits in 5 weeks! No Linguistics or TESOL course experience is required; students of all language abilities can participate - Spanish or Zapotec knowledge is not necessary.

ESCEND Engineering Management/ Entrepreneurship Minor (Lisbon, Portugal)

On this semester-long program, students are led by Dr. Jessica Rush Leeker who will give them the opportunity to complete an internship with an international company and experience cultural activities around Portugal. Students can complete their Engineering Management or Entrepreneurship minor while spending the Fall 2024 semester abroad in Lisbon!
