Did you work or live abroad in your career? What was your international experience like?

I had the good fortune to live in London early in my marketing career in the medical device industry. My job took me all across Western Europe and beyond. It was eye opening to meet so many new people with a different perspective on the world. From a career point of view, gaining international experience created many exciting options for me.

Jay WaddellWhy should Leeds students study abroad?

You will never see the world the same once you have studied abroad. I am confident it will lead to more international opportunities down the road.

Why is Amsterdam such an excellent location for your Global Seminar?

The Netherlands is an exceptionally interesting country. The Dutch are the most linguistically versatile population on the planet. Most of the Dutch study four languages (Dutch, English, German and French) from a young age because they sit in the epicenter of the European Union. Amsterdam is very cosmopolitan with significant influences from many other cultures. Amsterdam is frequently cited as one of the most innovative cities in the world.

What is your favorite Dutch food?

I love Indonesian food and it is abundant in Amsterdam. I also am a huge fan of their French fries and special dipping sauce.

What aspect of this program do you look forward to the most?

One aspect of the course that I am very excited about is the on-the-ground research with Dutch locals (Gen Z target market). Every student will have the chance to discover unmet needs and innovation opportunities by connecting with local people. I believe this is a great way to learn the innovation process and to learn about a new culture at the same time.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I was lucky enough to spend time in an international role in my career. I know this course will help position students for international opportunities in their career if that is of interest.
