Education Abroad Temporary Advisor

Primary Purpose & Function:
The Education Abroad Office invites applications for the position of Education Abroad Advisor within the Education Abroad unit. The Education Abroad Advisor advises on EA’s full portfolio of programs, providing general programmatic information on a drop-in or scheduled basis. The EA Advisor also guides potential applicants through the education abroad process, including selecting a program, applying, pre-departure preparation, and returning to the U.S. The EA Advisor enthusiastically, yet accurately, promotes the concept of education abroad and available CU Boulder-approved opportunities. In addition to one-on-one advising, the Peer Advisor supports the day-to-day functions of the office, including special projects, clerical duties, introductory presentations, and outreach to groups of prospective applicants and campus visitors.
Responsibilities
Advising
- General advising in one-on-one and group settings.
- Guide students through all phases of the education abroad process including students who are currently abroad and education abroad returnees.
- Respond to inquiries via telephone, email, and online chat.
- Attend bi-weekly advising team meetings.
- Retain and disseminate general information about CU Boulder education abroad programs.
- Use education abroad-specific software for application tracking.
- Communicate in a timely fashion with the advising and program management teams to ensure good customer service.
- Present to prospective applicants and campus constituencies to increase participation in education abroad by all members of the CU Boulder student community, including populations underrepresented in study abroad.
Office Support
- Clerical and/or administrative duties, including data collection, and updates to office and advising resources.
- Assist with front desk coverage and operations.
- Manage the General Email account for the office, including distribution and responding within an appropriate amount of time.
- Assist with education abroad fairs, events, and orientations, including preparation and facilitation.
- Assist with website maintenance.
- Develop promotional materials and assist with other advertising initiatives.
- Other projects as determined by the skill set of the Education Abroad Advisor and the needs of the office. (i.e. projects with excel, Photoshop, adobe premiere, etc.)
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Have completed an approved CU Boulder Education Abroad program; (program must have been at least 2 weeks long).
- Commit to a temporary 9-month position, not including vacation periods.
- Be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work in addition to scheduled hours.
- Successful applicants may be required to pass a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access and Publisher.
- Experience with Terra Dotta Systems.
- Familiarity with internet-based applications.
- Demonstrated initiative and interest in the field of international education.
- Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
- Enthusiasm for the development of new skills and knowledge.
Compensation
This position is paid hourly; pay is allocated on a bi-weekly basis. Compensation is awarded for all hours worked, including training, all mandatory meetings, and any nights or weekend events. The pay rate is $19.50 per hour.
