Position Description

Education Abroad (EA) invites applications for the position of Marketing & Outreach Intern in the Office of International Education. Education Abroad will hire approximately 3-4 interns for the 2024-2025 academic year. Interns are primarily responsible for marketing & outreach tasks to increase the representation of education abroad throughout the CU Boulder campus. Such tasks include presenting to students, tabling in the UMC and at other events, posting flyers & chalking around campus, and providing content for our social media pages. In addition to outreach & marketing responsibilities, interns will support the day-to-day functions of the office, including delivering marketing materials across campus and special projects.
 

Responsibilities

  1. Present to on-campus classes, residence halls, and student groups to increase participation in education abroad by all members of the CU Boulder student community, including populations underrepresented in education abroad;
  2. Help develop and distribute print & electronic marketing materials, and assist with other marketing initiatives such as posting flyers and chalking;
  3. Assist EA with its social media content, posts & maintenance;
  4. Write feature stories about education abroad alumni and/or programs;
  5. Promptly communicate with EA staff and its partners while ensuring excellent customer service;
  6. Help with the preparation & facilitation of education abroad fairs, orientations, and other outreach events;
  7. Promote greater involvement from our education abroad alumni, the Global Buffs;
  8. Attend weekly team meetings;
  9. Complete administrative duties, including data collection & analysis;
  10. Work on other projects as determined by the skill set of the intern and the needs of the office.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  1. Be a current University of Colorado Boulder student & maintain student status during the term of employment;
  2. Commit to a full-year position; this commitment requires that you work for two consecutive semesters (fall & spring), not including vacation periods. You may not apply if you are graduating earlier than May 2025. This position does not require summer employment;
  3. The position’s hours vary by week, but will usually be 10-15 hours/week at the start of each term, with hours dropping to 5-10 hours/week by the end of the semester. These hours will include some evening and weekend work. Known times that you will be expected to work increased hours include:
    1. Fall Fair: the 1st week of September
    2. Orientations: November, late March, and April
    3. Campus fairs: last 1-2 weeks of January
  4. Attend a team meeting once a week;
  5. Be able to participate in all components of the training process (see below for details).
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills;
  2. Enthusiasm and experience in public speaking;
  3. Experience with Adobe Photoshop or other graphic design
  4. Proficiency with social media, particularly Instagram & Facebook;
  5. Demonstrated attention to detail;
  6. Strong written communication skills;
  7. Ability to respond to emails quickly and regularly;
  8. Demonstrated flexibility & adaptability to last-minute requests or schedule changes;
  9. Excellent time management & organizational skills;
  10. Enthusiasm for the development of new skills and knowledge.

Compensation: This position is paid hourly; pay is allocated bi-weekly. Compensation is awarded for all hours worked, including the training period, evening & weekend work, and all mandatory meetings. The pay rate is $16.50 per hour. 

Benefits: All Undergraduate and Graduate Student Positions are hired as Student Hourly, and are not eligible for tuition remission. Work-Study is used, if awarded and available, but not required for hire.

Benefits are limited but include possible Student Retirement, and Sick Leave that accrues at a rate of 0.034 sick hours per every 1 hour worked. Additional information can be found at employee services.

Mandatory Time Commitments

As an applicant for this position, it is required that you are available for the interview and training dates specified below. You will be compensated for the training on an hourly basis. If you are unable to meet any of the time or technology requirements, please do not apply.

Monday, July 22nd, 2024 Interviewees will be contacted Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview. Those not selected for an interview will also receive a notification.
Week of July 29th, 2024 Interviews If selected for an interview, your interview will be scheduled between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm MST. Each interview will be 20 minutes. Interviews for all selected candidates will be conducted in-person in the Education Abroad Office or via Zoom. Zoom interviews require that you have a computer available with the following:
