Global Buff Updates

By Karstee Davis, Global Buffs Gazette Editor
Study Abroad, CU-Boulder

Melinda Ferguson (formerly Lee) (Exchange: University of Regensburg; Academic Year 1992-1993): Melinda graduated from CU Boulder Business School in 1994 with a degree in International Business and Marketing.  She started working at CA Technologies in 1998 as a customer service representative but now days she is based in London and running a major part of CA Technologies global operations.  She is the General Manager and SVP of the UK and Ireland.  Melinda says her study abroad experience in Regensburg was an incredible experience that provided her with a global perspective early on and also led to life long memories and friendships.  She met her best friend (Monika Lotter - also a CU 1994 grad) while studying abroad and they still remain close.  She also has been able to see her original Regensburg host family three times since she has been living in London!  Melinda says the year abroad framed her reference of the world, made her open to new experiences, and that these things have served her very well in her career.

Adelaide Lindseth (SIT Tanzania: Wildlife Conservation and Political Ecology; Spring 2012): Adelaide packed up and moved to Australia with a fellow Buff.  She lived in a town in Queensland called Agnes Water for a while doing an exchange at someone’s home; she recently told us that she currently has been travelling around, but plans on heading to Cairns to look for work and hopefully work part time on a tree kangaroo project through James Cook University.

'A Gargoyle's View' in Paris, France by Amanda Fendrick, Katherine Burky (Exchange: Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, Sciences Po, France; Fall 2012): Katherine is currently volunteering for the Peace Corps in Bulenga, Uganda where she works as a Literacy Specialist.  She will be on this assignment until December of 2016.  She says it is a very hard job, the hardest thing she has ever done, but also the best!  She loves her students at her school so dearly.  Most of her work is primarily focusing on literacy projects in her assigned primary school, but she also has secondary projects such as Malaria and HIV/AIDS prevention, girl empowerment, and resource development.

Claire Helwig (CIEE France: Paris Critical & Francophone Studies; Spring 2013):  Claire has found herself back in France, she just completed a Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF), and is going to stay in Paris through summer.  Claire recommends the TAPIF program as a good option for post-grads who want to go abroad and improve their language skills!

Ellysse Dick by Ellysse DickEllysse Dick (Global Seminar: Justice, Human Rights, and Democracy in Israel; Summer 2013 & Exchange: University of Regensburg; Spring 2014): Ellysse recently had an internship at the United Nations Foundation doing global health and post-2015 advocacy.  She says this internship has helped her decide what she wants to do next year when she graduates.

Tasha Herzfeld (College Year in Athens Program, Greece; Spring 2013): Tasha is in Thailand and teaching English!  She lives in a local neighborhood of Bangkok called Lat Phrao.  She teaches kids 3-12.  In her spare time she is traveling throughout Thailand and the surrounding countries.  She recently hosted a group of friends that are recent CU grads.  Her future plans include taking the LSAT and going to Law School.
