How to Apply

Passports and Visas

  • This is a CU Boulder course, so you will receive letter grades.

  • You may apply credit to your major and college requirements with approval from your academic department (via your advisor).

  • Your department/school/college must agree to grant credit by completing the Education Abroad Internship Credit Approval Form. If you complete an internship but do not obtain written approval to receive CU credit, the course will appear on your CU record as no credit (“NC”).

  • If you are approved to earn credit for your internship, the grades you receive abroad will be converted to pass/fail credit on your CU Boulder record. A grade of "pass" is equivalent to C- or better. D equates to no credit and F is a fail. The pass/fail credit earned on a CU Boulder education abroad program is exempt from college limits on student-elected pass/fail credit.

  • If you do not receive approval to earn academic credit for this internship program, you may not apply financial aid to your internship program (the Buffs Abroad Scholarship is excluded from this).

  • You will receive CU Boulder "in residence" credit for courses taken on this program as if you had completed the work on the Boulder campus.

For SIT programs, please note that there is not a choice of courses — you must take all of the program courses. You are not directly enrolled at host universities, and SIT programs are not based at host institutions abroad.

This program offers a choice of Internship or Independent Study Project (ISP) credit. Your department/school/college* must agree to grant credit by completing the Education Abroad Internship Credit Approval Form. If you complete an internship but do not obtain written approval to receive CU credit, the course will appear on your CU record as no credit (“NC”).

  • *Students in the College of Engineering and Applied Science will not receive academic credit for the SIT internship and should opt for ISP credit
  • If you do not receive approval to earn academic credit for this internship program, you must ensure you are still completing a minimum of 12 credits or opt for the ISP credit.

To determine when the Office of International Education generally receives your academic transcripts after your program ends, click here.

Depending on your program, transcripts can be received anywhere from a few weeks to several months after the end of your program. Once we have processed your transcript, we will notify you via an automated email from abroad@colorado.edu. At that point, you and your Academic Advisor will be able to see your coursework in your degree audit immediately. The coursework will then post on your official CU record (and transcript) 2-4 weeks later.

The faculty director of your Global Seminar will submit grades online once the deadline for any final exams/papers/coursework has passed. For some programs, this will happen immediately after the program ends; for others, final work may not be due for several months. Check the course syllabus for details (see Course Descriptions in the Academics section above). If you participate on a summer Global Seminar and plan to graduate in August, check with the program’s Director to ensure that this is possible. The online grading system does not allow a rush grade for one individual student, so this may or may not be possible depending on the final deadlines for any coursework.

See the Program Costs page for a detailed budget breakdown for this program as well as payment and withdrawal schedules.
