It was a great learning experience to learn from the professors in the country we stayed. The location of the dorms and the school were nice because it was out of town. The dorms were also a good experience because we were there with French students. There was a lot of free time which was great for exploring and interacting with the people. Transportation was surprisingly efficient and easy. Excursions were a great way to see more of the country and to learn more of the history of different locations. The only Slight negative about the trip was getting to the location of the city as well as our free weekend. I had never been out of the country before and was quite unaware of a lot of obstacles and other travel expenses. Along with buying plane tickets on my own, I also had to buy train tickets to get around. Also there were a few of us who did not know many people on the trip and planning to do things together became a last minute decision that could have been easier if we had spent more time together before we left the U.S.

I really enjoyed the topics and how the course was set up. For each topic we had a different professor, who specialized in the topic, allowing for an efficient use of time and a way to get a feel of the topic.

I loved the content of the class, everything we learned we could relate directly back to the scenery around us. We stayed in the dorms right next to the school, but slightly outside the city center. But it was really easy to get to the city center since transportation was right outside of our door. We met really cool people and some of us even picked up some phrases of the language. Every excursion we went on warranted a lot of pictures. They aren't worth missing.

academics - not too intensive, shallow introduction into a broad array of topics
location - housing and school: 20 minutes outside of city center. bordeaux in relation to europe: can fly and take train easily to many places. europe is small.
housing - minimalistic, but sufficient. best part (for me): single rooms = escape, solitude, etc. worst part: distance from city center.
interactions with locals - be friendly and they will reciprocate. dont be an ass. try to learn the language and they will love you. and bordeaux has really nice people for the most part. etienne is awesome.
local transportation - very convenient. goes everywhere youll wanna go. europe in general does this very well.
excursions - st. emilion is the jam. taste a lot of wine. and do something fun on the weekends.

Class was easy, but it's important to be alert in class. The location was beautiful, though not as close to downtown as I was expecting. Locals were kind as long as you were respectful back. Excursions were amazing, make sure to be prepared for them!

Being in Bordeaux was a great way to experience the content of the course rather than just reading or hearing about it. Bordeaux was beautiful and so much fun, and the people we met there were all wonderful, from the professors to the students and locals we got to know. All of our trips were a lot of fun as well as educational. It was truly a great experience.

Bordeaux is a great place to study abroad. The course is very informative and the workload is quite fair. I highly recommend having the French experience. The culture is quite unique--the food and wine are amazing and the history in the areas is unbeatable.

The classes were really wonderful. It was such a treat to have a different professor each day lecture about his or her speciality. The location of the dorms was nice because it was right next to the classes, however, it was a 18-20 min tram ride from city center. On the flip side, if we were in the city center, it would be a 18-20 min ride to class, so on the whole, I think living near class was better. The local people absolutely blew away any negative stereotypes I might have been holding on to. I highly encourage breaking away from the group a few times to experience France from the local perspective...first stop, the local outdoor market! The afternoon excursions were very well planned and almost always related directly to what we had learned and discussed during the morning lecture.

The course was very easygoing, but informative and very involved. Lots of information was covered, and all of it was useful for the final paper at the end of the course.

Bordeaux was an amazing city to get to know, and the completely appropriate place for this program.

We had a local guide who introduced us to a few friends, so that was easy to meet locals. Otherwise, the time seemed to short to make a lasting bond with anyone local there.

The excursions were a great part of the trip. All very related to the course, and all extremely fun.

The classes were taught by French professors, so you got a feel for how french education is. Because we were housed at the school, we were around people our own age, so we could meet others that way. Being only short tram ride from the center of town meant it was easy to get around and meet locals.

Bordeaux is beautiful! Located in wine country in France, it is surrounding by gorgeous vineyards and countrysides, and the city itself is very fun to explore.

Amazing Professor, amazing city, and great experience overall.

Lauren Mariele Troksa, Summer 2015 Participant
The course was fantastic! I learned a lot about French politics and society which ultimately made me learn more about American politics and society.
The location was awesome. Close to town and Bordeaux was small enough that within a few days, it was easy to maneuver around.
The locals were very nice and helpful. Because Bordeaux is more of a vacation spot for French people, it was sometimes hard to find someone who spoke English. It was easy to learn the basic French needed to get around however.
Excursions were fantastic; the museums, beaches, and vineyards were very educational and fun!

The lectures are all interesting, engaging and topical. We spoke a great deal about current events, which made our studies feel very relevant. The speakers were a diverse group from a wide range of disciplines, and I found that nearly all of them were both entertaining and capable facilitators for discussion. Bordeaux is a beautiful city that is very friendly to foot travel. Although the trams make transportation very easy, the town isn't much bigger than Boulder, so traveling by foot or bike is both easy and enjoyable. Many locals speak English, although if you do speak French, this program is a great opportunity to practice. I strongly recommend this program to any student who is looking for a way to study abroad.

The course I took while I was abroad was really interesting, it was the global connections between France and the United States. Each day during the two weeks we had a two hour lecture by different French professors and they each talked about certain areas like the EU, political systems, freedom of speech, LGBT rights, women's roles, as well as education and art history. The location is amazing, Bordeaux is great. We were immersed in the culture and the day to day lives of the French, the location of the university and the dorms was south of town but not far enough to make it a hassle to get into town. I think Bordeaux is an amazing place to take this course because there are so many places to take excursions that are only a bus/train ride away. This summer for the program was probably one of the best because the Euro Cup was going on, so not only did we get to interact with the locals, but we also got to interact with diehard European soccer fans. We met fans from all over Europe including, Wales, Ireland, England, Belgium, Croatia, and of course France. This program is full of excursions that range from Montesquieu's Castle to the sand dunes down in Archacon Bay, all the different excursions had some cool history behind them and each one was really interesting. My favorite excursion was St. Emilion, it was so gorgeous and we got to have a tour of the catacombs of St. Emilion.

The program director and on-site support staff were great. The excursions were fun and a nice way to learn outside of the classroom.

Since this was program wasn't too structured on what we had to do every minute of every day we had the opportunity to interact with the locals a lot. We went out in groups since we were really the only people we knew and we were in a foreign country. We interacted with a lot of the locals when we went to watch soccer games, as well as when we went out in the evenings. I recommend that students should try to fit in with the locals, not stick out like a sore thumb showing that you're an "obnoxious" American. We did get picked out as Americans, but if you fit in with the locals and scene, you'll less likely be picked out.
